8th place in state finals with a score of 73.65

      Heading back to Mount Pleasant...

We are actually still on the road back to Mount Pleasant from State Finals...Mount Pleasant posted their highest score of the year (73.65) and finished in 8th place.  I don't have a lot of other data to share since the recaps won't be available until tomorrow. I'll post more information when it becomes available...

The Mount Pleasant marching band finished the regular season with two competitions AND a playoff football game performance this past Saturday.  The band traveled to Lakeland, MI (just west of Pontiac) for a early afternoon performance at the Huron Valley Invitational; hit the road back to Durand for an early evening performance; then hurried back for the 2nd half of the Mount Pleasant/Gaylord playoff game and an post-game performance there.

At Lakeland, the band received a score of 69.70, which was good for 5th place in the 10 band competition.  At Durand, the Marching Oilers scored their season high score of 71.05, which place them 2nd in the 7 band competition.  The Durand performance also won the caption award for "best marching" (the 3rd such award this season).  Equally important, this performance put the band solidly in 7th place in their flight, assuring them a spot in the State Finals next weekend at Ford Field in Detroit.

Mount Pleasant was the only band in any of the 4 flights to perform in 7 competitions including 2 in each of the final 2 weekends.  This is remarkable considering the logistics involved in transporting 2 trailers full of equipment and instruments, 2 busses full of musicians, and cars full of volunteers and staff when the average one way driving time is in excess of 2 hours. This year alone, the marching band traveled over 1200 miles getting to and from competitions. Congratulations on making it back to State Finals for the 2nd straight year, and GOOD LUCK!!!

More information, including competition recaps and schedules can be found at the MCBA web site.

A video of the Atwood Stadium performance can be found here...warning, this is a very large file...

A video of the Linden performance can be found here...warning, this is also a very large file...

A video of the Lamphere performance can be found here...as you probably can guess (it's a large file)...
